The World Education Report 1995, prepared by the Secretariat ol the U nitcd Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCX)), is the third edition of a biennial series aiming to present a broad but concisc analysis of major trends and policy issues in education in the world today.
Th^ main theme of the 1995 Report is the education of women and girls. In virtually all countries, educational opportunities for females have tended to be more limited than those for males. Although the actual situation varies from country to country, this basic imbalance in the upbringing of men and women has undoubtedly had consequences for the form and character of ' social cohesion in every society, affecting human sdlidarity at the fundarpental level. r-f^r-i ^ - .

The Report closes with a brief review of the various measures being taken in different countries to teach those princip,les of peace, human rights and democracy that finally must form the fabric of human solidarity at the globallevel.
The Appendices of the Report mclude a unique set of statistics -World Education Indicators - giving country-by-country data on key aspects of education in over 180 countries, as well as summary tables by major world region. Also included is a complete listing of UNESCO's' reports,, publications and periodicals concerning education-in the period 1993-95.
