Book 1 follows four trainee managers as they go round a tool-making factory in England. Each trainee is studying a different branch of technology, and each is therefore interested in a different aspect of the factory's work. The book, set in this way in a technological context, covers all the basic structures of English at an elementary level, as well as those notions and functions which are of importance to technicians.
