Today there is another focal point - the White House. The original building was constructed on marshland, much to the chagrin of its first occupant, who preferred for a time the comfort of a local tavern. The present building is just one of Washington's impressive landmarks; others include the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, the Library of Congress, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
The excellent colour photographs in this volume illustrate these famous places plus many other facets of this splendid and memorable city Vissza
