These are the stories of the buildings and other curiosities in Kosice, each in 3 minutes. You can start reading Wanders wherever you like, in the middle of the book, from page 1, anywhere. As they're short, you can read them wherever you're expected to wait for something (probably boring), or even in places where you're not expected (if you're the kind who reads to surprise others).
These Wanders have not been written by a historian, or an architect, but by me. And I'm a Kosice man born (and bred). And a tourist guide around Kosice as well. I've got a certificate, I've done the special course, and I've even got 20 years of experience. So to some extent I know where the tourists gasp the most, what they usually remember about the city, and what they overlook.
The Wanders were originally written for the Kosice radio station, TOP Radio. I read the first one live on 3'" December 1993, and the last one in August 2001. Out of the 300 or so which were broadcast over nearly 8 years, we...

The Wanders were originally written for the Kosice radio station, TOP Radio. I read the first one live on 3'" December 1993, and the last one in August 2001. Out of the 300 or so which were broadcast over nearly 8 years, we now offer you one hundred. Since June 2003 Wanders have also been coming out in the Daily Korzar, and some of them have also appeared on www.cassovia.sk.
Wanders in Kosice appeared in book form in 2003 as well, and there have been three reprints.
In 2004 the Wanders were incarnated from the media into the real world, becoming monthly theme tours for tourist visitors and Kosice people. They take a different theme each month, and always a different route. Wanders in English start at 5.00 p.m. on the first Saturday in the month outside the Research Library (8, HIavna Street), led by the author of this book. You will find upcoming themes at www.potulka.sk.
Wanders don't Intend to be the most detailed, just preferably shorter. They don't pretend to be the most faithful historically, but preferably fascinating. They don't mean to be very descriptive, so they just talk about interesting things which still exist today, and you can easily go and have a look at them in the city, or recall them in your own memory. To be on the safe side, though, we've included photos. The narrative (subjective view) of a native of Kosice is linked with the views (objective lens) of Kosice's best photographer.
There are a few Wanders about things which don't physically exist (but they do exist). Others focus on attractions which you won't find in other guide-books, even though they're worth mentioning (the little stream along the HIavna Street, the musical fountain, the observation tower, or the Aviation Museum). After reading all these Wanders, you'll be able to put together the picture of all of Kosice's interesting history.
Wanders do intend to be a "manual" for your walks around Kosice. They want to inspire you as to where to go, they tell you why, and if need be also what you can get out of it. Or the other way round. With this book you can wander, without even budging from the spot. Wherever that might be.
As a book, Wanders have their own internal order (which you don't have to pay attention to if you're at all disorderly). You can be guided through it by the ->Wander about this book [2], Because in this book, everything Is a Wander.
