HOLLAR
DRAWINGS
VLADIMIR DENKSTEIN
Foreword by Professor Michael Kitson Professor of Art History at the Courtauld Institute, London
The Czech artist, Wenceslaus Hollar, has left behind one of the most important visual records of the seventeenth century. He spent much of his time travelling and living abroad, most notably in Germany, Holland and England, where he became Scenographer Royal in 1666. I Over a hundred of Hollar's drawings have been
carefully reproduced in this book, most of them by the highly faithful collotype process, and all have full cataloguing information. These are supported by an account of Hollar's life and work which gives a comprehensive assessment of his unique talents and artistic importance.
