UnexpectedJoy at Dawn is the story of the two Aliens Compliance Orders, told by a Nigérián born in Ghana. It is the narration of tenacious searches: one for his roots, the other for a brother: in the face of intrigue, double-dealing and swindle at the hands of crooked guides, dubious businessmen and corrupt bordér security personnel. People die; others are abused. Afriyie-Vidza, Legon About the Author Alex Agyei-Agyiri was born at Adamorobe in the Akwapim South District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. He is a product of the University of Ghana, Legon, and a legal practitioner who has written poetry since 1979. His works include the award winning poems, "Passover", "Ancestral Faces" and "This Death Call". "This Death Call" and "Passover" were adjudged among the best selected poems for the BBC Arts and Africa Poetry Award for 1982 and 1984 respectively. They were alsó published in the anthologies Summer Fires and The Fate ofVultures respectively (Heinemann). His two collections of poetry won the Ghana Association of Writers Literary Price for Literature in 1982 and the Valco Award for Literature 1982. Though Alex Agyei-Agyiri has written somé plays as well, Unexpected Joy at Dawn, started eighteen (18) odd years ago, is his second major full-length work, and it won a Valco Literary Award for Literature for best manuscripts in Ghana in 1988 under the title "Alién".
