The traveler who lives in the temperate climates of the world is usually astounded at the exotic and different flowers, trees, vines and bushes he sees along the way during his journey in the regions between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Obviously a majority of this flora can be found completely around the world in the tropical belt, but in each location the common names are often different. Yet there are some species that are peculiar to just a small geographical area, and many of these, too, have also been included in this book.

The traveler who lives in the temperate climates of the world is usually astounded at the exotic and different flowers, trees, vines and bushes he sees along the way during his journey in the regions between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Two of the countries mentioned so often, Ceylon and Indonesia, are actually not in the Pacific Ocean but are in the Indian Ocean. Because so many of the trees included are thought to have originated there, these areas adjacent to the tropical Pacific have been covered. An index has not been included in order to picture more species, however, alphabetizing has been arranged by what is believed to be the most generally known common names in English. Many of the local names in the languages of the countries where the species are to be seen have also been included. In converting some of the local languages to English, Thai for instance, phonetics were used to come as close as possible to the local names.
It is hoped that this book, and a companion book, "Tropical Blossoms of the Vdicific"—Hargreaves, will make your days in the tropics, whether just passing through or living there, more enjoyable by providing knowledge of the beauties of Nature.
