Fülszöveg

Because of the growth of interest as seen in the increasing number of papers coming from such areas as bio-sciences, life sciences, pharmaceutical and medical sciences we have come to realize that we must be open to advances and applications in the medical field. It has become evident that TA and calorimetry have been proved to be the only method by which the change in the heat capacity of any system can be directly monitored. In this way the structural consequences of biolögical events can be interpreted. The results thus obtained provide a theoretical background for doctors to achieve better diagnoses and to help with their future research. It was most uplifting to inspire young doctors to apply this technique in a wide rangé of medical problems such as diagnostic application, the testing of new surgical techniques, orthopedic and traumatological applications as weil as pharmaceutical use. This volume comes as the second compilation in this topic. The first volume entitled The... Tovább

The first volume entitled The Nature of Biological Systems as Revealed by Thermal Methods appeared in the highly successful series of Hot Topics in Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry published by Kluwer Academic Publishers and Springer Science+Business Media.. There are many reasons why the present book will undoubtedly be weil received by the bio-community: • Biological calorimetry (and thermal analysis) has recently stimulated an increase of interest, but this is still not reflected in modern textbooks, monographs and journals related to this field. • The book covers a broad spectrum, from medical diagnosis to new surgical techniques which test the consequences of operations. • It uses a macroscopic method for rather inhomogeneous material. • It may stimulate corresponding research and perhaps establish better contact between such distant fields as Natural Sciences and Medicine, for example. • It can be used as a non-invasive method. The orientation and the scope of this book are quite unique. We have attempted to summarize the results obtained in recent years and it is hoped that they will provide valuable information for the whole scientific community. D.
