About the Book The book deals with the anatomical features of high purity water preparation: ozone and ultraviolet light, filtration and sanitization, pretreatments, such as water softening, deep-bed constructions, carbon bed operations, and with the management of organisms, chlorinations, silica, scaling, fouling, the presence of manganese and irons, colloids, and TOC. It covers such principal purification procedures as distillation, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, and the lesser known electrically motivated processes. It is directed to practical semiconductor, pharmaceutical and power generation applications. To achieve these ends it seeks to synthesize the separate individual treatment techniques into appropriate operating systems. To do so it focuses upon the reasons that compel particular treatments, the water chemistry concerns and the physical governances that require accommodation and the logical organization of separate functions and devices into functioning assemblages... To do so it focuses upon the reasons that compel particular treatments, the water chemistry concerns and the physical governances that require accommodation and the logical organization of separate functions and devices into functioning assemblages designed for practical purposes. The approach is holistic; a unifying rationale is intended. About the Author Dr. Theodore H. Meltzer is a consultant in filtration and high purity water primarily to the pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries. His interests center on the technical requirements of marketing applications, on water system critiques and logic, and with validation concerns and practices. He has served as an expert in legal litigations in these fields. A member of several technical societies, Dr. Meltzer has lectured and published widely both in the States and abroad. He has published some 100 papers, holds four patents, has authored a book entitled, "Filtration in the Pharmaceutical Industry", and has authored or co-authored chapters on "Ultraviolet and Ozone Systems", "Pharmaceutical Water: (Generation, Storage and Distribution", "Filtrative Sterilization with Porous Membranes", and "The Sizing Of Microporous Membrane Systems". He is Technical Program Director for the annual ULTRAPÜRE WATER Conferences, a contributing participant at the Semiconductor Pure Water and Chemical Conferences, and a lecturer at the Microbiological Applications Symposia in the Florida Keys. Trained as a polymer chemist as well as a filtration specialist, he holds a B.S. in chemistry from the College of the City of New York, an M. A. in preparative organic and biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin, a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from the University of Chicago, and has performed postdoctoral work on the mechanical properties of polymers at Princeton University.
