The Young Turks
PRELUDE TO THE REVOLUTION OF 1908
This is the first definitive study in English of the secret society which unexpectedly overthrew the archaic Turkish regime in 1908. Written by a diplomat who is also a teacher of modern history, the book gives a realistic account of the slowly developing opposition to the tyranny of Sultan Abdul Hamid and of the origins of the Revolution.

What happened in Turkey was of direct importance not only for the Turkish people but had its consequences in the Balkans, among the Arabs,... Tovább

The author portrays the leaders of the movement against the background of oppression and considerable danger, and shows how they stumbled into laying the early foundations of the modern Turkish Republic.
What happened in Turkey was of direct importance not only for the Turkish people but had its consequences in the Balkans, among the Arabs, and for people far distant from Istanbul. Yet the entire period has received relatively scant attention in English and there are many widespread misconceptions that Dr. Ram-saur's book will do much to dispel. He presents much new material of value to scholars and to all readers concerned with twentieth-century Near Eastern problems.
