The World's Wildlife is in danger. And as this fact becomes increasingly clear, it seems that steps to reverse the situation become more and more problematic. The World's Disappearing Wildlife gives an up-to-date review of the situation and looics at how things have deteriorated in the past decade. Increasingly conservation depends on detailed knowledge of how animals behave in their natural environment, for only then can positive steps be taken to protect those species whose future concerns all animal lovers.
Overshadowing all else in the massive global effort to stem the damaging influences on the world's fauna, are the demands made by the accelerating increases in human populations and the strains these impose on limited natural resources. In the meantime, the menace to the world's animals remains. The destruction or spoliation of the habitat and the often wanton killing of a wide variety of animals, not merely for food but more especially for their skins and other parts - such as elephant tusks - has been devastating. And it has frequently happened for no better reason than to satisfy the whims of fashion or ignorant superstition. The future remains cloudy - our efforts must increase.
