Economics
This is the fourth edition, newly revised for the 1970's, of the most celebrated and popular account of the history of economics ever written.
The concerns of economists have changed with the changing times and it is astonishing to discover, on rereading a book whose previous edition is only five years old, how very much times have changed. This has necessitated a virtually complete recasting of Chapter Ten, "The Modern World," that critical chapter in which, as Mr. Heilbroner states: "I no longer have the hallowed words of the Worldly Philosophers to fall back on, but must interpret as best I can the body of opinion (often at odds with itself) that deals with contemporary trends."

"If ever a book answered a crying need, this one does. Here is all the economic lore most general readers conceivably could want to know, served up with a flourish by a man who writes with immense vigor and skill, who has a rare gift for simplifying complexities."
—Orville Prescott, The New York Times
Robert L. Heilbroner is Norman Thomas Professor of Economics at the New School and has lectured before many business, government and university audiences. His other books include The Future as History (1959), The Great Ascent (1963), and most recently Between Capitalism and Socialism (1971). Vissza
