The case against UFOs has not been put to rest. Although UFOs "officially" do not exist, reports of sightings continue to be made. The scientific world, through the publication of the Condon Report, and the U.S. government, through the closing of the Project Blue Book files, have officially put an end to speculation about Unidentified Flying Objects. Yet the evidence used to dismiss the UFO Phenomenon by the Condon Committee is scanty in the extreme. Fewer than one hundred cases were considered, and even that sample was scarcely selected at random; many of the scientists assembled to pass on the authenticity of UFOs at the University of Colorado brought with them negative preconceptions—not the open minds of scientists.

J. ALLEN HYNEK served as official astronomical consultant to the U.S. Air Force's Project Blue Book. He was an astronomer and Professor of Astronomy at Ohio State University, and later became chairman of the astronomy department at Northwestern University. Hynek started The Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) in 1973. He died in 1986.
Jacques Vallee received his Ph.D. in computer science in 1967 from Northwestern University and is the real-life model for the French scientist played by Francois Truffaut in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He is the author of Forbidden Science, also published by Marlowe & Company. Vissza
