Even more remarkable, many of them have retained their originál style and atmosphere.Thefact that this genius for architectural and town planning is more than an accident of history is explained by Dobroslav Líbal in this book. Each stage of its development has outshone the last, and now, with the destruction of Danzig, it has become the only major survivor of European baroque in its full splendour. The author has followed each town through wars and prosperity, through the 'silver rush' and along Mother Courage's trail. In each successive phase of history the superficial changes were great, but the fundamental principles of the nation's culture remained the same. Anyone who has travelled to Czechoslovakia or who admires its culture will find this book an endless source of information and insight into its towns and cities and the people who built them. Vissza
