The Splendour of St Paul's St Paul's Cathedral occupies a unique place in the heritage of England. It is London's own cathedral with a history that reaches back to the beginnings of Christianity in this country. After the Great Fire of 1666 which totally destroyed the great medieval church, the Cathedral was rebuilt to the designs of Sir Christopher Wren - an enduring testament to the Glory of God and to the architectural genius of Wren. Miraculously St Paul's survived the bombs of the Second World War which scored direct hits, and its splendour as a building in no way diminishes its prime function as a place of worship. This book attempts to capture this splendour in words and pictures. The author is E. T. Floyd Ewin, M.V.O., O.B.E., M.A., the Registrar and Receiver of St Paul's and an authority 011 its history and architecture.
