Various congenital cervical anomalies with secondary degenerative changes involving the central nervous system may be of practical interest to the neurosurgeon.
The increasing medico-legal importance of whip-lash injuries to the cerv'.cal spine is served by a consideration of the anatomical structure of 6 such cases followed from 1 to 20 years. A complete discussion of trauma has not been attempted, however.
The natural progressive degenerative changes that occur in the cervical spine were coordinated with the resultant intervertebral foramen constriction and perineural fibrosis. These conditions were shown by original radiographic and microscopic studies of cadaver material and these in turn were compared with similar radiographs of patients with known clinical symptoms.

These are surrounded by an ample cushion space containing areolar tissue and blood vessels. By contrast the foramen above is encroach-ed upon by covertebral osteophytes.
