The author was born in 1939 in a small village in North Kyongsang-do. He entered Sorabol College in 1959 and graduated several years later after interrupting his studies to do military service... A progressively broader readership took note of the artistic talents of Kim Joo-young in the late 1970s. In 1982 his reputation was further enhanced when he was honored with a coveted Prize for Literary Prose...
