There is no school of Weber, as there is of Marx or Comte, and yet he is acknowledged as the founder of modern sociology. His reputation is based as much on his theories about sociology as on his detailed investigations of society. Julién Freund has written what Professor Norman Birnbaum called 1the most comprehensive, penetrating and lucid of all the works on Max Weber's generál sociology*. This study emphasizes the dual interest of methodology and observation in Weber1s work.
