In the third part, Heinrich Potthoff describes the development of the SPD from the long years m opposition, through an era of searching for fresh direction in a unified Germany, up to Gerhard Schroder's period in government.
In an additional chapter written especially for this English édition, Heinrich Potthoff has provided a resumée of the years in office of the red-green coalition, as well as of developments lead-ing to the formation of the grand, coalition in autumn 2005.
