The earliest of these magnificent structures, the Reales Alcázares of Sevilla, dates from the reign of Abdal Rahman 11 (a.d. 822-852) but bears the imprint of later caliphs who considerably enlarged the palace and decorated it with fabulous stucco and gesso work. shed in exalted
quoise Riofrio,
; designed with immaculate taste
and decorated with restraint. The royal family's favorite palace, the Almudaina, is an amazing marriage of Mudejar inlays and detail, Gothic severity, and Empire furnishings, set against a backdrop of lush palm trees and bougainvillea amid the din of modern-day Mallorca.
Illustrated with more than four hundred color photographs, The Royal Palaces of Spain offers a rare and comprehensive view of Spain's most treasured architectural landmarks. Vissza
