International relations in the twentieth century have reached an unprecedented zenith in regard to their intensity, frequency and complexity. Cooperation of a permanent character between States has therefore called for the institutionalization of international relations. International relations in the twentieth century have reached an unprecedented zenith in regard to their intensity, frequency and complexity. Cooperation of a permanent character between States has therefore called for the institutionalization of international relations. This institutionalization has today resulted in international organizations influencing far more considerably than in the past the shaping of those relations and the material of international law intended for their legal regulation.
In this book, the author poses the question: what role can international organizations play in the process of establishing norms of international law; what are the forms of manifestation of this role? An analysis of the activity pursued by international bodies over several decades may certainly be relied upon for an answer to this question, and leads to the analysis of the role of international organizations in the making of agreements between States, i.e. in the acceptance of new norms of international law.
