THE RAPIDS
Captain Stanton greets the evening of his Hfe with amused surprise at the distinguished if slightly eccentric place he occupies in the society of tropical Delmina. A man of character, renowned for his courage as a pioneer of the equatorial forest, he believes himself moved by only one profound emotion —the love he has for his daughter Stella. He longs for her to return this love.
Stella comes back to the tropics after formative years in Europe. At first it seems that all his hopes will be fulfilled; and her return brings him the contentment of an Indian Summer. But the love of these two leads them into situations neither had foreseen, nor could have foreseen. Captain Stanton is drawn and driven in spite of himself into the stress and conflict of a colonial world in violent motion. Clinging to his love for Stella, he finds himself swept from his old understanding of life towards a new and larger understanding. The boundaries of love and happiness widen, even though at strange and terrible cost. The smaller emotion flowers into the greater. Vissza
