Hkre is a rigorous and systematic account of the pure theory of international trade, based on a series of lectures dehvered at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The author, being dehberately selective, has focused attention on a few fundamental theorems which, collectively, form a minimal tool kit for any economist wishing to work in the field.
Although pains have been taken to render the main ideas accessible to the nonmathematician, the exposition is essentially algebraic, since algebraic analysis points most clearly to generalizations which the reader might be expected to construct for himself. Geometry is employed freely, but usually in a supplementary or illustrative role only.
The material is divided into four parts, following conventional order:
• traditional theory of barter trade
• gains from trade and international investment
• connection between trade and money
