Don Francisco Javier Sánchez Cantón was born in 1891. At the age of 22 he took his doctorate in Arts at the University of Madrid, and was appointed lecturer there in 1918. Four years later he became Deputy Director of the Prado, and in 1960 he was appointed Director. He has thus been closely concerned with and responsible for the extensive changes and improvements that have taken place in the museum during recent years. He has somé thirty published works to his credit, including El Greco and Spanish Drawings from the lOth to the 19th Century. Vissza
