Now The National Portrait Gallery has assembled for exhibition nearly two-thirds of the ninety portrait reliefs which he executed during his career, and this volume has grown out of the collection. The extensive catalogue not only details the information on each piece but alsó describes the artist's subjects - among others Róbert Louis Stevenson, William Dean Howells, John Singer Sargent, Henry Adams, Theodore Roosevelt, Mrs. Grover Cleveland. Further, this book presents the most complete bibliography yet assembled on Saint-Gaudens. The portrait reliefs express vividly facets of Saint-Gauden's character which are not often publicized.
