Fülszöveg

The New English Bible is a translation of the whole Bible in current English undertáken by the major Christian bodies (other than the Román Catholic) of the British Isles. It is not a revision of the Authorized Version, nor is it intended to replace it.
Work on the Old Testament has occupied a group of scholars and literary advisers for many years, and no pains have been spared to make the translation as accurate and as intelligible to the modern reader as possible. As with the originál publication of the Authorized Version in 1611, the books known collectively as the Apocrypha are made available at the same time as the Old Testament; their translation has been done with equal care for accuracy and clear presentation. While opinions vary on the degree of authority these books possess for Christians, those who wish to read them will find them here freshly and faithfully translated.

Work on the Old Testament has occupied a group of scholars and literary advisers for many years, and no pains have been spared to make the translation as accurate and as intelligible to the modern reader as possible. While opinions vary on the degree of authority these books possess for Christians, those who wish to read them will find them here freshly and faithfully translated.
For the New Testament in this edition, the translators have reviewed their work and taken account, where it was thought advisable, of suggestions and criticisms made since it was fi-st published in 1961; no extensive or radical changes

were found necessary, and improvements are largely confined to matters of detail.
The whole work has been done under the authority of the Joint Committee whose members represent the Churches listed on the back cover. In the later stages, the Committee vvas joined by observers representing the Román Catholic Church in England and Scotland.
The translation is not the expression of any denominational or doctrinal standpöint; it aims to be in style neither traditional nor modernistic, but is offered as a new and authoritative version of the Bible for use in worship, for teaching, or for priváté reading.
