THIS NEW TESTAMENT in current English is the first part to be published of The New English Bible, a translation of the whole Bible which is being undertaken by the major Christian bodies (other than the Roman Catholic) of the British Isles. All the responsibilities of publication were entrusted to the University Presses of Oxford and Cambridge.
The New English Bible is neither a revision of the Authorized Version nor intended to replace it. Rather it is an authoritative attempt to present the meaning of the original, as understood by the best available scholarship, in English which is as clear and natural for the modern reader as the subject matter will allow.
The translation of the New Testament is the fruit of 13 years' co-operative work on the original Greek text by a group of scholars and literary advisers appointed by

The translation is not the expression of any denominational or doctrinal leaning; it aims to be in style neither traditional nor modernistic. It is offered simply as the Bible to all who in reading, teaching or in worship may care to use it.
