Years of planning were devoted to ensuring that the collection (the richest accumulation of Mexican artifacts in the world) should be rehoused in a new building which was specially designed for it, and which provided for future acquisitions. This book (written by a former director of the museum and by two of the curators) follows the plan of the museum. After the opening chapter by Dr Bernal, who surveys the history of the museum and its collection, Román Pina-Chán describes the archaeological section of the building, in which the history and artistic achievements of the ancient Mexican civilizations are displayed.
