About this Book
The mexican national museum of Anthropology in Chapultepec Park, opened in 1964, embodies entirely new-conceptions of museum design. This book (written by a former director of the museum and by two of the curators) follows the plan of the museum. After the opening chapter by Dr Bernal, who surveys the history of the museum, Román Pina-Chán describes the archaeological section of the building. The halls in the ethnographical section present the indigenous peoples of Mexico as they have survived to this day: their dwellings, costume, languages, customs, occupations and environment. The text is lavishly accompanied by illustrations of the museum's varied riches.
Ignacio Bernal, born in 1910, received his doctor's degree in archaeology from the National University of Mexico. From 1962 to 1968 he was Director of the National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico, and since February 1968 has been Director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History, which supervises...
