Giancarlo Gasponi was born in Romé, right in the heart of the old city where he still lives and works. After studying Fine Arts, he devoted himself for a long time to painting. His first venture into photography was taking photographs for an audiovisual programme on the history of ancient art which he devised himself and which is still used in various European museums and universities. In collaboration with Rouhyeh Avaregan he has published a number of photography books on Italian regions and cities which have not only been highly appreciated but have alsó been long sellers both in Italy and abroad. Rome Revealed is Gasponi's first publication in which he introduced a new and originál style to capture the multifaceted reality of this city. After ten years from its publication it still is a best seller among the photography books on Rome.
