Lloyd C. Douglas
LLOYD C. DOUGLAS is one of the best-known novelists of his day. Almost everyone has read at least one of his novels or seen a motion picture based on one of them. Such titles as Magnificent Obsession, Green Light, The Robe, and The Big Fisherman are part of the heritage of this generation. They will be read as novels and seen as films by future generations, and the inspired illumination of Christian Philosophy in these books will furnish the texts and themes for the teaching of our grandchildren.
Books that live do so because they reach the hearts of their readers, and the knowledge and understanding of human nature that an important writer must have, come only from a long apprenticeship and growth in which the author develops his own original understanding of the nature of his fellow man and his God.

Books that live do so because they reach the hearts of their readers, and the knowledge and understanding of human nature that an important writer must have, come only from a long apprenticeship and growth in which the author develops his own original understanding of the nature of his fellow man and his God.
Lloyd C. Douglas's apprenticeship was the ministry where he served for more than twenty-five years. From a small church in Indiana he followed the call of larger churches to Akron, Washington, Ann Arbor, Los Angeles, and Montreal. Though his influence was growing through his nonfiction books and the power of his preaching, he retired at fifty-two to write novels, for he felt that through fiction the message of his sermons would reach a greater audience. The wisdom of his decision was proved by the success of his first novel, Magnificent Obsession, based on a sermon in this book, The Living Faith. Title followed title, carrying the inspiring themes of his sermons until they were known to millions.
The Living Faith, the first collection of Lloyd C. Douglas's sermons, may well be his most important book, because it contains in original form'the great ideas of his novels. Vissza
