Dr. George Strem was born in Budapest, Hungary. He studied at the universities of Budapest, Vienna (Austria) and at the Sorbonne, (Paris, Francé), obtaining various academic degrees. He alsó holds a diploma from the Ecole des Langues Orientales (School of Orientál Languages) of Parist During World War II, he was drafted into the French army. After his discharge he came to the United States on an invitation from the president's Advisory Committee on Foreign Scholars, serving first at the War Department as a linguist, then later at the Office of War Information as a news and feature writer. After the war, he began his academic career, teaching at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa; at the University of California at Los Angeles; and at the California State University at Chico. He was a consultant to the State Department of Education of California and a contributor to the Seven Language Dictionary of the Encyclopedia Brítannica. Since his retirement he has been actively...
