This volume presents the university as seen through the eyes of one remarkable artist. Michael McCurdy sketched and photographed every scene, engraved the wood blocks, researched and wrote the text, designed the book, and set the type for this extraordinary tribute. Working with special tools on one-inchhigh endgrain wood blocks, McCurdy spent more than forty hours on each engraving. For somé, the tour will evoke fond memories. For others, it will serve as a graceful introduction to the "living museum of American architecture" that is Harvard. "McCurdy is the consummate wood engraver. Harvard's fair variety suits his probing burirt to a nicety." - Leonard Baskin, artist "With McCurdy's vivid and precise engravings to celebrate its diversity, Harvard has falién into skillful hands." - Maxine Kumin, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet "With his singular sensitivity, [McCurdy] has caught the quality of light and shadow which distinguishes the architecture and the education at Harvard." - Thomas Boylston Adams, histórián Michael McCurdy's talent. . . will delight both the admirer of Harvard and the admirer of wood engraving." - Rodney Armstrong, Director, Boston Athenaeum Vissza
