Minnesota, Wisconsin, Erie, Hnron, Illinois - all are words familiar to the ears of modem Americans, yet just how many realize their significance? The roots of these place names, and those of many others in the Great Lakes region, are all Indian, and reflect the great heritage and wealth of history that this geographically-unique area has to offer.
Together, at an enormous 95,000 square miles, they form the greatest expanse of fresh water in the world and, individually, 'The Sisters" dominate the record books with feats of size and depth.
They are great not only in size, however, for it is the lakes that produce the hydro-electric power which propagates the booming industrial economies within cities such as Detroit, Chicago and Toronto and, ironically, leads to their serious pollution problem. If the Great Lakes are to remain the superb vacational facility that they are surely revealed to be in these splendid color... Tovább
