The Fourth Dimension is a free-standing upper intermediate skills
coursebook for adult and young adult students of English.
The Fourth Dimension is for students who have been exposed to, but
not necessarily learnt, the 'core' structures, and who need more
practice to give them the confidence to use English fluently and
accurately to express something worthwhile.
Language teaching in most coursebooks has tended to move within
three dimensions: intelligibility, accuracy and fluency. This book is
concerned with a fourth dimension - expressivity. Expressivity means
not only the ability to say and write things clearly, accurately and
fluently, but also to express something worthwhile, and in some
