THE FLINDERS RANGES of South Australia are well known to tourists, photographers, and artists. They must surely rank among the most impressive of M -I ; • ) Australia's mountainous areas. Their
escarpments stand out in relief from the surrounding dry plains, and the abruptly rising ranges are like a green finger pointing north toward the dry centre of the , I continent. The rugged southern and
northern Flinders are in some ways in contrast to the rolling downs of sections of the central Flinders.
The trees, plants, and geology of the area are rich and diverse, as well as magnificent to the eye. Wildflowers abound—the vibrant red of the Wild Hops, the purple of Salvation Jane, and the brilliant yellow of the Daisies. The rocks glow red in full sunlight and take on an enchanting bluecolour in the evenings.
