Fülszöveg

A new volume of short stories by Alberto Moravia is always a literary event. The forty-one stories collected in The Fetish run the gamut of humán experience and are touching, sad, humorous, tragic, ironic-sometimes more than one or two of these qualities are present in the same story. All the stories in Mr. Moravia's last collection, More Román Tales, were set in Romé and its environs and dealt exclusively with the inhabitants, mostly working class, of that city. The stories in the new book are restricted neither geographically nor characterwise. Though his characters are Italian, their emotions and the experiences they undergo are universal. The Fetish is as penetrating and brilliant as any of Alberto Moravia's previous collections.
Alberto Moravia was born in Romé on November 28th, 1907, the son of an architect. He learnt French, English and Germán as a child; he suffered continual ill health from the age of 9 to 20. He wrote his first növel in 1925, and then became foreign... Tovább

Alberto Moravia was born in Romé on November 28th, 1907, the son of an architect. He learnt French, English and Germán as a child; he suffered continual ill health from the age of 9 to 20. He wrote his first növel in 1925, and then became foreign correspondent in London, Paris and elsewhere for La Stampa and Gazetta del Popolo of Turin. In the later years of Fascism his books were banned and he had to write articles under a pseudonym. During the Germán occupation of Italy he went into hiding in the mountains, being liberated by the Americans in May, 1944. He now lives in Romé and on the Island of Capri, and is regarded as the foremost contemporary Italian novelist. His növel The Woman of Romé enjoyed an immense success both in Britain and in America when it was first published in English. A full üst of his works now available in English translation will be found on the back of this jacket Vissza
