This book contains 143 of Aesop's famous Fables,
specially retold for children of today.
Aesop's Fables are over two thousand years old.
According to tradition they were first told by a Greek
slave called Aesop some time around 600 BC. He
did not write them down and no one knows if he
really invented all of them, but we do know that
they have been popular ever since.
In Aesop's world there are people of all kinds but
there are also animals, birds and trees that think,
speak and feel like human beings. Some of the ani-
mals are good, honest creatures; others are greedy
and selfish. Their adventures, fights and arguments
make fascinating stories. They also give a vivid
picture of the way people feel and act in situations
that are as real today as they were 2,000 years ago.
The book is illustrated with 28 full colour paintings
and with line drawings.
