Hand resting on the butt of his pistol he wheeled, headed slowly toward the source of the reports. In the next moment he reeled in the saddle from a blow to the head. Struggling to maintain his senses, Rye twisted about to fight off two men who had seized him and were dragging him off his horse. Two more closed in from either side.
