Fülszöveg

The current state of social psychology has been the subject of a great deal of recent debate, though the outcome has not always proved positive or beneficial. This book has been constructed more optimistically in the belief that a social psychological analysis, coupled with a programmatic view of the subject's development, is the best way to understand its present state. The title The Development of Social Psychology reflects the editors' intention to emphasise the analytic treatment of social psychology as a dynamic and constantly developing subject. The theme of development provides an integrating framework and generates a three part structure that interrelates past, present and future in an attempt to give a more constructive and persuasive perspective on social psychology. The contributors are all prominent workers in the field, with a diversity of backgrounds which has produced a particularly stimuiating analysis of the main strengths and important themes from past and present... The contributors are all prominent workers in the field, with a diversity of backgrounds which has produced a particularly stimuiating analysis of the main strengths and important themes from past and present that will lead to the fruitful development of social psychology. This book will be essential reading for advanced students and all workers in social psychology whether they are involved in the practice, the history or the philosophy of the subject. . . the text is a valuable and interesting addition to the literature in social psychology."
