A GUIDE
WILSON FOLLETT
Edited and Completed by Jacques Barzun
The New Desk Reference That Can Help You Avoid Common Errors in Speech and Writing
Throughout Modern American Usage Wilson Follett maintains that the best in language is attainable and worth the effort, that in matters of expression the speaker and writer must exercise choice and judgment.
Modern American Usage, an invaluable guide to educated usage and good taste, is filled with Wilson Follett's wit and erudition. It is intended to be read with pleasure and to be used by those who are interested in good English—and it is American, "American to the marrow," as Wilson Follett hoped it would be. Modern American Usage will take its place beside the classic reference works of Bartlett, Roget, and Fowler.

The Concise Dictionary of
TWENTY-SIX LANGUAGES
IN SIMULTANEOUS TRANSLATIONS
Compiled by
MTERM. BERGMAN
Here is a new concept in multilanguage dictionaries: twenty-six languages incorporated in a design that allows the user to translate all twenty-six languages instantly.
• Each word is cross-indexed
• Each word is alphabetically ordered in every language
• There is no turning back and forth of pages
To translate an English word into any, or all, of the languages, simply turn to the desired word in the English alphabetical order. To translate foreign words into any of the other twenty-five languages, refer to the index, where each language has its own alphabetical listing. Next to the word is a number. Turn to
(Continued on back flap)

the number and the word appears in ail languages. This new rapid system enables simultaneous translations of all twenty-six languages at a glance.
All non-Latin alphabets—Russian, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Yiddish, and Japanese—are given in both their own characters and in transliterated English spelling. No phonetic signs are used. The attempt is made to give the pronunciation of each word in such a way that a person totally unfamiliar with non-English alphabets can be understood by one who speaks the language fluently.
Because of its scope and the ease in which a translation or transliteration may be found, this dictionary is an indispensable reference book that everyone will find useful.
