THE ART OF SCULPTURE by H E RBE RT READ THE A. W. MELLON LECTURES IN THE FINE ARTS FOR 1954 The aim of this book is to give an aesthetic of the art of sculpture, which, in its author's view, has in the past too often submitted to the rule of architecture or painting. He was President of the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, and of the Society of Education in Art, and one of the Editors of the Collected Works of C. G. Jung and of the Selected Works of Miguel de Unamuno, as well as adviser to the Editors of the Collected Works of Sámuel Taylor Coleridge. "Few critics write history at all, but this book is very good history. Within its field it is a systematic and almost invariably exact record. As a history, it will surely remain more useful to more people than anything else on the subject." -LAWRENCE GOWING, New Statesman Vissza
