GALEN ROWELL lives in Berkeley, California, where he was born in 1940. Since 1972 he has devoted his life to photography and mountaineering, becoming a prolific author and photographer. His award-winning photographs have appeared in numerous books and magazines, including National Geographic, Life, Outside, Sports Illustrated, Sierra, and Time. He is the author/photographer of ten books, including The Yosemite, Mountains of the Middle Kingdom, In the Throne Room of the Mountain Gods, Galen RowelVs Vision, and Mountain Light.
