THE ARABS' NEW FRONTIER From the Foreword This book is about an institution whose work has hitherto not been widely known but which is unique in the Arab world and in somé ways in the world as a whole, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. It was intended primarily as a description and analysis of the first ten years ofthe Fund's operations. However, it seemed to me that the Fund's work could best be understood by piacing it where possible in the broader context of the economic and social background of the Arab countries where it has been carried out. In the course of collecting material for the book I travelled to almost every country in the Arab world, including two countries, Libya and Saudi Arabia, which have not received Kuwait Fund loans since they have large oil revenues of their own. The resulting work will, I hope, give not only a comprehensive account of the Fund's operations and its special character, but alsó convey a picture, not of course by any means intended... Tovább
