THOMAS A. BAILEY is Byrne Professor of American History, Emeritus, at Stanford University. He received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in history from the same institution.
In 1960 he was President of the Pacific Coast Branch of the American Historical Association; in 1967-68 he was President of the Organization of American Historians; in 1968 he was President of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations.
Dr. Bailey has been a frequent contributor of articles and reviews to professional historical journals. He is the author of about twenty books, mostly in the field of American diplomatic history, including Woodroiv Wilson and the Great Betrayal; Woodrow Wilson and the Lost Peace; The Man in the Street—the Impact of American Public Opinion on Foreign Policy; America Faces Russia—Russian-American Relations from Early Times to Our Day; Presidential Greatness; The Art of Diplomacy; Democrats vs. Republicans; Voices of America; and The Marshall Plan...
