THE AERODYNAMIC DESIGN OF AIRCRAFT
Provides a coherent explanation of why aircraft are the shapes they are for the tasks they have to perform. It covers the design of three aerodynamicallv distinct types of air-oaft: the classical combination of a fuselage with a swept or unswept wing of moderate or large aspect ratio; the slender wing, as exemplified by Concorde: and the hyper sonic aircraft which rides on a strong shock wave. The emergence of these types of aircraft as natural solutions to the problems of human travel on a global scale is explained from simple assumptions about human behaviour and basic fluid mechanics.
