A PICTURE BOOK TO REMEMBER HER BV
64 Pages of Color Photography
Texas is the state of wide open spaces, of rich oilfields, vast cattle ranches and proud people. It is a state where mile after mile of fine highways take the traveller through dense forests of cypress and pine, rolling prairies, rugged mountains and white-washed villages that reflect the state's Spanish-Mexican heritage.
There can be few people who have not heard of the siege of the Alamo in 1836. in which the legendary Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie died defending.the now-famous building during the war for Texan independence. Today, however. Houston. Texas' largest city, also boasts an impressive Astrodomain comprising Astrohall. Astroworld and Astrodome, almost certainly a foretaste of 21st century architecture.
Dallas and Fort Worth are rapidly becoming one great metropolitan area, vitally important in the worlds of banking and insurance. In direct contrast are El Paso near the Mexican border — a former outpost and site of a Mission that dates back to 1659 —and Old Abilene town, with its well-preserved buildings of the 1880's and its legends of gunslingers.
Although the numerous photographs in this colourful book cannot bring back the many characters from Texan history they do show places and scenery of outstanding beauty and interest in this enormous, affluent and fascinating American state. Vissza
