ROBERT DAVID MacDONALD was born in Elgin and trained originally as a concert pianist. Since 1973 he has been an associate director of the Citizens' Company, Glasgow, for whom he has written 20 translations and seven plays, as well as directing the British Premieres of Lermontov's Maskerade, Balzac's Vautrin, and several plays of Goldoni. Among his many translations are: Rolf Hochhuth's The Representative and Soldiers; Goldoni's Country Life; and, most recently, Genet's The Balcony, The Blacks, and The Screens. SUMMIT CONFERENCE is set in the Berlin Chancellery in 1941. The play charts a fictitious encounter between Eva Braun and Clara Petacci, who gradually begin to take on the convictions, and to a certain extent the personalities, of their respective lovers, Hitler and Mussolini, who are at that moment engaged in carving up the map of Europe in an adjoining conference room. The timely appearance of a young soldier-orderly gives the women an ideal opportunity to put their theories into gruesome practice. Vissza
