Studying Strategies revises important functions and structures in
new contexts, and gives practice in communicative tasks, both
spoken and written, at appropriate points in integrated sequences
of work. The book emphasises the importance of good study
habits, the building of vocabulary in word fields, dictionary work,
strategies for reading challenging texts, and the organisation of
ideas in sequenced writing. Learning progress is clearly indicated
by a summary of main language points at the end of each unit.
Studying Strategies contains 15 units of work, arranged in
groups of four teaching units followed by a consolidation unit. Each
unit is based on internationally relevant themes - foreign travel,
crime, medicine and health, festivals, science and technology-to
which the students are encouraged to contribute from their own
knowledge and experience. These themes are presented through
authentic reading and listening materials and are fully illustrated in
colour and black and white.
The recorded materials contain dialogues, listening passages and
oral exercises. The Teacher's Book, after describing the practical
teaching procedures and the principles behind the course, gives
step-by-step teaching notes as well as breakdowns of the
functions, topics and structures presented in each unit.
