Alexander McKee was born in Suffolk, England, and, at the age of eighteen, wrote and sold his first short stories to an aviation magazine. Though an eye defect prevented him from fulfilling his ambition to serve in the R.A.F., he fought in the N.W. Europe campaign and then served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany until the end of the war. From 1948 to 1952 he was writer/producer on the staff of the British Forces Network in Hamburg.
The idea for writing STRIKE FROM THE SKY came to him in 1940 when he saw that no records were being kept of the world's most decisive battles. "Hence," writes Mr. McKee, "the detailed diary, the visits to targets as soon as they had been bombed, and the collection of stories on the spot." Supplementing these records with nine months of intensive research, he produced STRIKE FROM THE SKY.
